What It Takes to Become a Good Wedding Planner by David Scott
Not everyone can become a wedding planner. Wedding planning is a profession that is only good for those who have a select list of character traits. If you think you have what it takes to become a wedding planner, then good for you! It is a profitable side business you can do over the weekend, or if you are really committed it could even become a full-blown business! Not only is it a very fulfilling job, but it is also quite fun to do while you make money on the side.
The first and most important character trait of any wedding planner is that such a person must be highly organised â and we mean organised. It can get overwhelming trying to ensure that everything goes according to plan, but it is even harder to make sure that you are always on top of things. A wedding planner usually has a notebook, an organizer or a personal digital assistant that he or she uses to make sure that everything is scheduled accordingly and she has everything she needs with her. If you are an organized person, you would make a great wedding planner.
Second, wedding planning entails knowing how to coordinate others for the best results. You may end up being in charge of things over all, but it does not give you the license to dictate what you want. The character trait of knowing how to coordinate with other people makes for successful wedding planning because of a number of things. Brides and mothers in law tend to be overly emotional or controlling, and you want to be the level headed one to ensure that everything goes according to plan and everyone is happy with the decisions that are made. Simply put, you are a like a peacemaker!
Third, for wedding planning to be successful you should have at least a decent list of contacts in the wedding business. You should have a reliable photographer, wedding cake maker, seamstress and others all within a text messageâs reach as proof of your professionalism. No wedding planner is without such a list! While the couple might have their own contacts, trust that there are some couples who will just rely on you for this one because that is the reason they hired you in the first place â to be the all-in-one wedding command centre who already has everything and everyone at the touch of a button!
True, wedding planning is hard work and only the best can pull it off. However, the joy and satisfaction you can get from it is worth all your effort. After all, not many people can say they have had a hand in making someoneâs special day come true. If your influence as a wedding planner is great and you pull off a successful and well-received wedding then trust that your good name will be passed around and there will be more clients who will want you to be in charge of organising their âdream dayâ.
Not everyone can become a wedding planner. There are some personal character traits necessary to pull off successful wedding planning that a couple will love.
